If you're interested in these services, you're probably wondering about the prices or fees charged by a topographical engineer. You've come to the right place! You'll find all the information you need in this article.
A topographical engineer is a liberal professional whose activity is governed by law (30-93). To practise, a topographical engineer must be registered with theOrdre National des Ingénieurs Géomètres Topographes. They are also subject to a number of obligations: compliance with ethical rules, ongoing training, insurance, transparent pricing of services, etc.
What does a topographical engineer's fee depend on?
According to article 23 of the law (30-93) "These fees must constitute fair remuneration for the work carried out. Their
amount is freely agreed with clients, provided that they are fair and measured", so the topographical engineer is free to set his or her own remuneration. A topographical engineer's fee depends mainly on 3 factors:
- The complexity of the project: the larger the site or the more difficult it is to complete, the higher the cost.
- Geographical location: the more the area is devoid of geodetic coverage, the more difficult it is to achieve
- The scope of the assignment: the more complex and time-consuming the assignment, the higher the cost.
As the price depends on these 3 factors, it's almost impossible to know how much the service will cost. Generally speaking, you'll need to wait for an estimate after a site visit and the gathering of all project information to know the final price.
These fees are also established in accordance with the ONIGT fee guide.
Topographical engineer's prices and fees: what to look out for?
It's not uncommon for the cost of a topographical engineer to be a little higher than anticipated at the end of the project, even if you have accepted the amount indicated in the estimate drawn up by the topographical engineer at the start of the work. When can a topographical engineer's price be modified?
The topographical engineer may increase his rates in the following cases:
- The original project has been modified: certain changes have been made to the project, and the cost of these changes will be included in the surveyor's fees.
- The scope of the assignment has been broadened: if new tasks are added during the course of the project that were not included in the initial contract, the topographical engineer's rates will take these changes into account.
Rates and fees for a topographical engineer: how are they calculated?
Topographical engineers generally opt for one or more of the following methods to calculate their fees:
- Fixed price : this is the most widely used remuneration method
- Hourly vacation : this type of remuneration is calculated according to the time the topographical engineer spends on the project. It is mainly used for specific, short-term assignments, such as consultancy or expertise.
You should be aware that the cost of a topographical engineer's services can be established by combining several methods of remuneration, depending on the assignment required. You can check the calculation method used by your topographical engineer in the estimate he will send you.
Please note that prices are generally quoted exclusive of tax. You will therefore need to add VAT, which is 20%.
